ControlUp announced that the ‘DaaS Like a Pro’ research organization has named it the most widely used DEX solution in its 2024-2025 End User Computing State of the Union report.

The latest research from DaaS Like a Pro delivers valuable insights into the deployment and usage of DaaS solutions, revealing key trends in end-user computing (EUC) across both public cloud and on-premises environments. This annual report offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of the EUC industry, examining areas such as DaaS adoption, vendors, security, devices, operating systems, GPUs, and manageability. The findings shed light on the key challenges and initiatives that will define the DaaS landscape in 2024 and beyond.

“The DaaS Like a Pro team of experts continue to deliver a comprehensive analysis of the EUC ecosystem with practical guidance and analysis into all aspects of DaaS adoption,” said Simon Townsend, Field CTO, ControlUp. “It’s an honor to be recognized by this influential team as the leading DEX vendor with 24% of the report contributors using ControlUp solutions – double that of the No. 2 solution. This continues to showcase the real and tangible value customers receive from the ControlUp DEX platform with its ability to deliver true real-time visibility and automated remediation to improve DEX across any desktop, any application, anywhere.”

“A new approach is emerging for performance monitoring and analysis tools that goes beyond basic monitoring to encompass the broader Digital Employee Experience (DEX),” said the DaaS Like a Pro report authors. “This approach not only tracks performance but also examines user interactions, application usage, and overall satisfaction. This shift indicates that to truly optimize the digital experience, organizations need more comprehensive solutions that address the full spectrum of employee needs, beyond what traditional monitoring tools can offer.”

The research found that ControlUp is currently the leading DEX vendor with 14% of report contributors using ControlUp Real-Time DX and 10% using ControlUp Edge DX. Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Analytics follows with 12% usage and Citrix Analytics used by 10%.

The detailed report concludes that “the EUC and DaaS landscape is evolving rapidly, with public cloud migration, hybrid-cloud, security, platform transition, and DEX as key focus areas. By embracing innovation and maintaining cost efficiency, organizations can deliver secure, scalable, and efficient virtual desktop and application services, ensuring a competitive edge in the digital era.”

ControlUp announced initial findings from its new ControlUp Study with the Edge DX Windows 11 readiness assessment tool. Across a sample set of over 750,000 enterprise Windows endpoint devices, the findings reveal that 82% have not yet migrated to Windows 11, while only 18% are running the new Microsoft operating system. Of the devices yet to migrate, 88% are ready for migration, 1% can be upgraded to meet the requirements prior to migration, and 11% need to be fully replaced.

Assessing endpoint devices before migrating to Windows 11 is a critical step before migrating to Windows 11, especially since most organizations need to complete this before Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Windows 11 requires specific device features and system requirements, including a 64-bit CPU, Secure Boot, and a TPM 2.0 chip, to ensure security and performance. Older devices lacking these features won’t support Windows 11, therefore, there is a need for early action. Delaying the transition can result in significant expenses and logistical challenges. Scrambling to upgrade in the eleventh hour could lead to increased costs and operational disruptions. Potential supply chain issues, like hardware shortages or shipping delays, could further complicate the transition as reported in the ControlUp study.

“The clock is ticking for enterprises to adopt the more secure and capable Windows 11, yet many organizations are stuck, unsure about their environment’s readiness,” said Simon Townsend, Field CTO, ControlUp. “But doing nothing is not an option. With more than four in five devices still needing to make the switch, now is the time to fully assess Windows 11 readiness to ensure a seamless transition with less downtime and disruption. ControlUp is simplifying this assessment with a new one-click widget that instantly identifies devices that are out of compliance with Windows 11 hardware requirements.”

“The last few years have forced organizations to continually re-evaluate their endpoints,” said Shannon Kalvar, IDC Research Director. “With the Windows 10 end-of-support date approaching, it’s imperative for organizations to plan their move into the next generation of operating systems and consider enabling AI on endpoints. Understanding an organization’s posture around this event, amidst the broader digital landscape changes, is critical to advancing their digital strategy.”

The new ControlUp Windows 11 readiness assessment tool is built into the company’s unified DEX solution for physical endpoints and apps. It delivers immediate assessment and insights into an organization’s Windows 11 readiness across an endpoint estate. The new tool is available for a limited-time free trial with a download of the ControlUp Edge DX 50-user VIP pack.

The ControlUp Windows 11 readiness data is compiled from a sample set of over 750,000 enterprise Windows devices managed by ControlUp as of early August 2024. More detailed data insights and trends, categorized by industry, company size, geographic location, and additional parameters, will be available soon. Learn more at https://www.controlup.com

ControlUp has announced enhancements to ControlUp Edge DX, a solution aimed at reducing IT support expenses associated with physical desktops by identifying, resolving, and preempting issues that traditional device management software cannot address. Catering to organizations aiming to enhance operational excellence and foster better employee engagement, Edge DX now boasts advanced employee dashboards and scoring, improvements in employee sentiment analysis, and a GenAI-powered chatbot. These enhancements democratize the remediation resolution process, enabling intuitive problem-solving by IT personnel at all levels.

“Today’s IT leaders need to be able to get off of the ‘break-fix treadmill’ so they can focus on the strategic, mission-critical initiatives that deliver greater business value,” said Simon Townsend, Field CTO, ControlUp. “They also need to be able to look beyond device performance metrics to truly see employee sentiment and engagement data to humanize the computing experience. With enhancements to ControlUp Edge DX, we are not only reducing the mean-time-to-resolution, but we are also giving IT the unified workflow optimization they need to make IT more human-centric, autonomous, and proactive. The result is an elevated DEX that puts people first.”

Employee engagement has proven to be directly correlated to the value employees experience with their workplace technology. According to Forrester’s Future of Work Survey, 2023[1], “…workers are much more likely to be engaged when they have the information, tools, and technology needed to do their jobs. Highly engaged employees are twice as likely to agree that they can easily access the information they need to do their job and report having the correct technology than workers with low engagement. They’re also twice as likely to report being satisfied when their collaboration tools are effective, and feel supported by their service desk.”

With the latest iteration of ControlUp Edge DX, released earlier this month, ControlUp is empowering strategic IT organizations in four key areas:

  1. Advanced Employee Experience Dashboards and Scoring – ControlUp experience scores transform how IT organizations measure their operational excellence by focusing on the impact to the end user. Prioritizing faster issue resolution over simply collecting data, Edge DX dashboards enable IT admins to identify which devices or apps are causing issues and understand end users’ experience. The enhanced scoring system also works smartly—paying more attention to apps that users actively use. Additionally, data from VDI and DaaS sessions is integrated for comprehensive insights, score trends, and other important granular details.

  2. Enhanced Employee Sentiment Surveys – Giving IT teams the ability to look beyond performance metrics into the data that drives employee engagement, Edge DX now delivers qualitative sentiment surveys. Introduces asset and survey libraries that are one-time, recurring, or on-demand. Surveys can be distributed in a randomized manner across the employee base, exclusively targeted with user exclusions, or segmented based on device groups.

  3. GenAI-Powered Chatbot – Delivering intuitive responses based on conversational context, IT teams of any level expertise can get the insights they need into devices, unified communication and collaboration and installed applications with simple natural-language searches. The chatbot generated answers not only in text form but also various graphs, charts, tables, and maps.

  4. Cost Savings Dashboard – To quantify the value of DEX initiatives, the ControlUp cost savings dashboard delivers insights into automations, remediation, and remote assistance sessions for physical endpoints, VDI, and DaaS to demonstrate time savings and IT labor costs for end user projects.

ControlUp introduced Secure DX, a solution for real-time scanning, detection, and remediation aimed at enhancing the security posture of endpoint devices while preserving the digital employee experience. By consistently and autonomously identifying and fixing vulnerabilities and insecure configurations, Secure DX simplifies endpoint management and enables IT and cybersecurity teams to react promptly to security risks.

Endpoint security risk has never been greater. Employee devices, increasingly used in remote and hybrid work environments, have expanded attack surfaces, leaving enterprises prone to threats and breaches. Organizations face mounting, high-risk security vulnerabilities stemming from misconfigurations, account hijacking, unauthorized access, insecure interfaces, and more. The problem is real: nearly 70% of organizations admit they have experienced at least one cyber attack through an internet-facing asset.

“Never-ending waves of increasingly critical cybersecurity threats have IT overworked and frustrated, particularly related to the gaps in security at the endpoint,” said Asaf Ganot, ControlUp Executive Chairman and Co-Founder. “In response to this growing need, ControlUp is leading the expansion of the DEX market category to include security and compliance insights that will improve both IT and employee productivity.
