As organizations face increasing pressure to modernize and digitize their operations, many IT leaders are struggling with outdated IT service management (ITSM) practices that fail to meet the demands of modern digital enterprises. To help IT navigate these challenges, Info-Tech Research Group has published its latest blueprint, Elevate Your Service Capabilities to Drive Enterprise Value.

The new resource provides insights on how IT leaders can transform their service management strategies into an enterprise service management (ESM) framework. The firm advises that by integrating advanced technologies like generative AI, IT leaders can ensure their service management practices are not only aligned with organizational objectives but also positioned to drive significant growth and enhance customer experiences in an increasingly competitive market.

“Over the next decade, digital and technology-first services will be how customers and communities primarily engage with your offerings, be that your products, platforms, experiences, support, or any other outcome,” says Carlene McCubbin, associate vice president of research development at Info-Tech Research Group. “Exceptional service then becomes the key differentiator for organizations, prompting technology leaders to shift focus from IT services to enterprise services. In turn, these tech-driven services will bring immense value to customers and your organization.”

Info-Tech’s blueprint emphasizes the transformative impact of exponential technologies on organizations and industries. The firm’s reference to the concept of Exponential IT, which is also a recently revealed research center, is intended to address the ever-increasing demands of today’s organizations. The concept encompasses not just the rapid advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning but also emergent tech trends, digital transformations, and the strategies needed to thrive in an era of exponential technological evolution. With this evolution in mind, Info-Tech details in its latest resource how traditional IT service delivery models may struggle to keep pace with the rapidly evolving needs of organizations and departments as they strive to modernize and remain competitive.

“Delivering exceptional tech-based services requires a complete overhaul, placing the customer at the center of design, orchestration, and delivery,” explains McCubbin. “This transformation demands merging enterprise and business architecture, customer experience, and service planning practices as the foundation for enterprise value.”

Info-Tech recommends organizations shift their focus to an enterprise view of services with customer experience and value at the forefront. This shift can be achieved by setting achievable targets to elevate each service capability and determining actions to reach those targets, including potential use cases for AI. The firm explains that by leading the charge in offering capabilities to the business, IT can evolve from being merely an order-taker or service provider to ultimately co-owning outcomes for the organization.

In Elevate Your Service Capabilities to Drive Enterprise Value, Info-Tech outlines three critical steps IT leaders should follow to transition their services from traditional IT-centric models to enterprise service management practices and drive toward an Exponential IT future:

  1. Define a Guiding Star: This step involves IT leaders adopting an Exponential IT mindset, establishing a clear vision and guiding principles, and identifying value and success metrics.
  2. Assess Technology and Capability Readiness: IT must identify the current and target state for key ITSM capabilities, assess gaps, and review recommendations to progress each capability through targeted milestones.
  3. Build an Effective Roadmap: The final step requires prioritizing initiatives to form a comprehensive roadmap and finalizing it with a robust communication plan.

The comprehensive blueprint provides practical guidance for IT leaders to transform IT service management into a strategic asset. By leveraging exponential technologies and adopting a strategy focused on delivering customer value, the firm explains that IT leaders can ensure their services support organizational growth and drive significant transformation. Embracing this forward-thinking approach will enable organizations to effectively meet future customer expectations, positioning them as pioneers in delivering exceptional digital experiences.

The proactive strategy outlined by Info-Tech in the newly published resource not only enhances service delivery but also fosters long-term innovation and competitiveness in the digital age.

The contamination and risks from microplastic particles and PFAs (poly-fluoroalkyl substances) in America’s food supply may soon become a thing of the past, thanks to a joint venture between Northwestern University’s INVO Lab and engineering firm Chang Robotics.

The newest initiative to emerge from the company’s IP Studio, GOEco™, is a scientific breakthrough that infuses microscopic amounts of graphene oxide into paper products or any compostable barrier property. The first objective of GOEco is to replace the pervasive use of plastics in food packaging, paper plates, and disposable utensils.

As recently reported in SmartTechDaily, experts are increasingly alarmed about the dangers of “forever chemicals” — the microplastic particles and PFAs (poly-fluoroalkyl substances) that have been proven to accumulate in our bodies and our food supplies such as the fish we consume. Consumer protection agencies are increasingly pressing suppliers to keep PFA substances out of our environment, away from our clothing, and out of our bodies.

However, a patent-pending innovation from Northwestern University’s INVO Lab and Chang Robotics will make disposable tableware much more environmentally friendly by infusing paper packaging and other barrier materials with small amounts of graphene oxide, a naturally occurring nanomaterial comprised of carbon with some oxygen and OH ions. Through a development initiative by Dr. SonBinh Nguyen of Northwestern University and Dr. Tim Wei, a former dean of engineering at a Big 10 university, the company discovered how to formulate and manufacture graphene oxide and tested its use on disposable tableware with the goal of becoming the leading sustainable replacement for plastic packaging.

“The technology behind GOEco™ is a breakthrough that could impact not only our food supply but could play a critical role in protecting our reproductive ability and substantially increasing our health,” said Chang Robotics CEO Matthew Chang.

Interestingly, the testing also shows the new packaging to be highly superior to plastic in maintaining food freshness as it inhibits the transfer of moisture, oil, or gases between the food and the surrounding environment.

According to Dr. Wei and Chang Robotics, the company’s own laboratory testing and review of scientific literature are pointing to the safety and sustainability of the company’s implementation. The company is working with industry partners to pursue regulatory evaluations to determine and document the safety of graphene oxide for food packaging use and obtain FDA approvals. The company is welcoming commercial partnerships in the advancement of this discovery.

ControlUp announced initial findings from its new ControlUp Study with the Edge DX Windows 11 readiness assessment tool. Across a sample set of over 750,000 enterprise Windows endpoint devices, the findings reveal that 82% have not yet migrated to Windows 11, while only 18% are running the new Microsoft operating system. Of the devices yet to migrate, 88% are ready for migration, 1% can be upgraded to meet the requirements prior to migration, and 11% need to be fully replaced.

Assessing endpoint devices before migrating to Windows 11 is a critical step before migrating to Windows 11, especially since most organizations need to complete this before Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Windows 11 requires specific device features and system requirements, including a 64-bit CPU, Secure Boot, and a TPM 2.0 chip, to ensure security and performance. Older devices lacking these features won’t support Windows 11, therefore, there is a need for early action. Delaying the transition can result in significant expenses and logistical challenges. Scrambling to upgrade in the eleventh hour could lead to increased costs and operational disruptions. Potential supply chain issues, like hardware shortages or shipping delays, could further complicate the transition as reported in the ControlUp study.

“The clock is ticking for enterprises to adopt the more secure and capable Windows 11, yet many organizations are stuck, unsure about their environment’s readiness,” said Simon Townsend, Field CTO, ControlUp. “But doing nothing is not an option. With more than four in five devices still needing to make the switch, now is the time to fully assess Windows 11 readiness to ensure a seamless transition with less downtime and disruption. ControlUp is simplifying this assessment with a new one-click widget that instantly identifies devices that are out of compliance with Windows 11 hardware requirements.”

“The last few years have forced organizations to continually re-evaluate their endpoints,” said Shannon Kalvar, IDC Research Director. “With the Windows 10 end-of-support date approaching, it’s imperative for organizations to plan their move into the next generation of operating systems and consider enabling AI on endpoints. Understanding an organization’s posture around this event, amidst the broader digital landscape changes, is critical to advancing their digital strategy.”

The new ControlUp Windows 11 readiness assessment tool is built into the company’s unified DEX solution for physical endpoints and apps. It delivers immediate assessment and insights into an organization’s Windows 11 readiness across an endpoint estate. The new tool is available for a limited-time free trial with a download of the ControlUp Edge DX 50-user VIP pack.

The ControlUp Windows 11 readiness data is compiled from a sample set of over 750,000 enterprise Windows devices managed by ControlUp as of early August 2024. More detailed data insights and trends, categorized by industry, company size, geographic location, and additional parameters, will be available soon. Learn more at https://www.controlup.com

New offering enables developers to build web and mobile applications without worrying about sizing, provisioning, or managing infrastructure.

SearchStax, announced a new offering, SearchStax Cloud Serverless, that radically simplifies the management of Apache Solr workloads in the cloud.

SearchStax Cloud Serverless delivers a fast, scalable, and cost-effective Solr Service, allowing web and product teams to build quickly and scale automatically while optimizing resource utilization.

In today’s landscape, search infrastructure provisioning becomes a moving target. If overprovisioned, teams pay for idle resources, but if under-provisioned, teams risk poor performance, creating an unreliable environment and greater downtime, leading to a poor user experience and high abandonment rates. SearchStax Cloud Serverless complements the SearchStax Cloud offering by providing a deployment option that optimizes cost efficiency and delivers scalable performance, by eliminating the need for capacity planning and simplifying operations while reducing overhead.

SearchStax Cloud Serverless is ideal for teams building or maintaining search-powered applications with low to medium data volume, intermittent or seasonal traffic, and long idle times for lower cost. Typically, these projects need to avoid being locked into long-term contracts or technical lock-ins. By abstracting away server, CPU, memory, and network provisioning and management, SearchStax Cloud Serverless enables web teams to focus on differentiating features and building great web experiences. Web teams can save time by going from development to staging to SLA-backed production environments without being slowed down by the planning cycles associated with infrastructure. This means faster setup time, more flexibility, and seamless autoscaling within minutes or seconds, allowing for a better development workflow and configuration management experience.

“The introduction of SearchStax Cloud Serverless delivers market-wide innovation in the category of Search Infrastructure Management – our team is proud to be able to deliver a solution that enables developers to focus on implementation of business functions, without having to worry about constantly tuning the environment to meet dynamically changing needs. A major analyst firm forecasts that 25% of cloud IaaS buyers intend to utilize serverless in the next 12 months — one of the highest rates of planned adoption compared to other adjacent cloud services. Along with SearchStax Cloud, our managed Solr offering now enables an even greater number of search use cases across more industries, and delivers the capabilities needed for any organization to scale and grow toward operational maturity faster, more securely, and within budget,” said Sameer Maggon, Founder and CEO of SearchStax.

SearchStax Cloud Serverless is generally available. For more information, go to https://www.searchstax.com/pricing/cloud/serverless-solr-service-pricing-details/.

Technology adoption is all about people, which means the techniques required to drive that adoption must be people-oriented to ensure success.

To keep up with shifting business needs in a constantly evolving market, it is increasingly imperative that organizations ensure they have the appropriate technologies in place. However, the fast-paced improvements, changes, and resulting obsolescence of certain technologies make it nearly impossible to maintain a static IT environment. Even with a significant IT budget allocated to managing these changes, doing so after a project is completed and ensuring that the systems are effectively used can be challenging. To help IT leaders ensure that newly implemented systems and technologies are correctly adopted by the intended recipients, global IT research and advisory firm Info-Tech Research Group has published its latest advisory deck, Drive Technology Adoption.

The new research describes several problems that can arise when new technologies are not effectively adopted, including unused or partially used technology, duplicated systems, unrealized benefits, and incomplete technology projects.

“The rapidly changing technology landscape has always favored those who are willing to embrace change,” says Troy Cheeseman, Advisory Practice Lead at Info-Tech Research Group. “In recent times, slow adopters in the workplace have faced pressure, as they were unable to perform tasks without new tools. The pandemic forced reluctant individuals to use digital tools and collaborate online. Although the future is uncertain, it’s clear that people can change with the right motivation.”

Info-Tech’s research outlines how encouraging a herd mentality can be useful in promoting the adoption of new technology across most users. Early engagement with tech-savvy individuals who can lead the way is crucial to building momentum, as identifying and involving these key resources at the start of the process can significantly facilitate a successful transition.

Additionally, transparent communication is vital throughout the adoption process. Involving staff in proof-of-concept activities, such as using train-the-trainer techniques and leveraging in-house advocates, will kickstart the momentum toward technology adoption. Although group activities will address the bulk of users, the firm cautions that leaders should be aware that laggards may need special attention.

Info-Tech highlights that the key to promoting technology adoption lies in identifying and defining barriers, which requires understanding the attitudes of different user types and reviewing adoption techniques that are appropriate for each. The firm also suggests a “follow the leader” approach, in which technology enthusiasts and champions lead the way.

The new research deck outlines the five-step holistic approach organizations should consider to drive technology adoption and includes the following steps:

  1. Categorize users – Gain a clear understanding of the different user types.

  2. Identify adoption techniques – Understand the range of different tools and techniques available.

  3. Match techniques to categories – Determine the most appropriate techniques for the user base.

  4. Follow the leader – Be aware of the different skills present and use them to advantage.

  5. Refresh, retrain, restrain – Prevent reversion to old methods or systems.

When planning IT projects, the firm emphasizes that considering whether the final product will be readily accepted by those who will use it is a critical factor in determining adoption. Simply completing user acceptance testing (UAT) is not enough to ensure user acceptance.

Alludo announced the results of its Neurodiversity at Work survey highlighting how the traditional workplace is missing out on top talent by failing to support the needs of neurodiverse employees.

These workers can bring exceptional skills and much-needed strengths to businesses, with the survey highlighting that over 50% of neurodivergent employees can increase workplace flexibility, and creativity, and bring diverse ways of thinking that allow them to tackle challenges in unique ways.

Up to 20% of the global population is neurodivergent. That means they perceive and interact with the world differently than the neurotypical majority, and have one or more neurological differences that may include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and others.

That’s one in five people.
Double the number of people who are lefthanded.
Twenty times the number of people who have red hair, by some estimates.

In other words, not rare at all.

In addition to neurodivergent conditions, the survey also included a general category of “mental health conditions” (e.g., bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.), as well as “social anxiety.” While neither category is typically recognized as neurodivergent, these conditions often co-occur with neurodivergent conditions and may impact an individual’s experience in the workplace. Mental health conditions were present for 20.9% of respondents, and social anxiety was present for 22.1%.

Neurodivergent

“It’s clear that even within organizations that have improved representation across certain groups, there’s a dimension that remains continually overlooked, under-valued, and underdiscussed: neurodiversity,” said Becca Chambers, SVP of Global Brand and Communications at Alludo. “In supported environments, neurodivergent individuals thrive and offer a wealth of strengths and abilities that allow them to make exciting discoveries and challenge the status quo. These exceptionalities are especially valuable now as businesses are struggling to find and retain talent. Embracing neurodiversity in the workforce is not only the right thing to do; it’s smart business.”

The survey polled 902 non-managers, managers, directors, VPs, and C-Level office workers between the ages of 18-65 living in the US and UK. Data reveals that neurodiverse workers can add exceptional value to a business through:

  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail 40%
  • Ability to stay focused for long periods of time 36.7%
  • Excellent ability to recognize patterns 34.6%
  • Excellent math skills 34.4%

However, the traditional workplace continues to function for the neurotypical majority, alienating and further stigmatizing neurodiverse talent. According to the survey, this disconnect has resulted in 51% of neurodivergent workers thinking about quitting or having left their job because they do not feel their employer is doing enough to support their needs. When different age groups were asked if they have quit or would consider quitting, younger employees were most likely to look for jobs elsewhere:

  • Aged 18-24: 52%
  • Aged 25-34: 54.5%
  • Aged 35-44: 48.8%
  • Aged 45-54: 35.8%
  • Aged 55-64: 27.9%

While neurodiversity is often invisible, it is undoubtedly present throughout all organizations. Business leaders should see this as an opportunity to redesign outdated work processes to be more inclusive and accessible, while also creating a culture of psychological safety where all their employees—neurodiverse or not—can thrive. Not only does this benefit those who identify as neurodivergent but also makes room for more diverse ways of thinking, which is vital for continuous innovation and change.

“The need for innovative thinking will only become more important with the widespread adoption of sophisticated AI in the workplace,” said Chambers. “As conventional work gets automated, the ability to innovate, think outside the box, and approach problems with entirely different frameworks will become significantly more valuable.”

Alludo’s Neurodiversity at Work Survey was fielded in February 2023 with data from 902 respondents working across 25 industries in the US and UK. To see the full results of Alludo’s Neurodiversity at Work Survey Report, click here.
