Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) has announced significant upgrades to its DriveWell Risk and DriveWell Crash & Claims Product Suites. These updates feature a streamlined onboarding process, improved driver and passenger classification, and advanced crash detection models offering exceptional accuracy across all levels of crash severity. Additionally, CMT is launching new developer tools that simplify the creation of safe driving experiences on the DriveWell Fusion® platform.

CMT has measured the driving behaviors of over 40 million users to date. With its new streamlined onboarding process for Tag customers, drivers no longer need to take multiple steps to link their safe driving app with the Tag. They just stick the Tag to their windshield and CMT’s technology automatically links it to their account. These improvements make it easier than ever for users to activate their telematics program, increasing adoption rates and reducing support calls.

Creating a seamless driver experience is the foundation for any successful telematics program, which is why CMT continues to refine its algorithms that differentiate between drivers and passengers. In its latest update, CMT has introduced driver/passenger classifications with even higher accuracy. A recent University of Pennsylvania Medicine Nudge Unit study by independent researchers found CMT’s driver/passenger classifications to be 97% accurate.

Ensuring a smooth experience when users upgrade their smartphones is also key to the telematics experience. With this update, CMT has streamlined the process for transferring telematics accounts to new devices. This improvement ensures that users keep their discounts intact and insurers retain customers without disruptions when upgrading their devices.

More accurate crash models for all severity levels

CMT has enhanced its crash detection capabilities. New high-frequency crash models leverage advanced methodologies, similar to those used in large language models, to better understand the complexities and variances of real-world crashes. CMT’s newest crash model captures more crashes across all levels of severity, providing insurers with even more accurate data for improved claims processing and crash response.

Millions of people rely on CMT’s crash technology today, and CMT is working to ensure every driver has access to life-saving crash detection and emergency response. In this update, CMT has integrated Apple’s SafetyKit signals as an input into DriveWell Crash & Claims AI models, helping insurers expand their crash response and digital claims coverage. With the DriveWell Fusion® platform harmonizing driving data across platforms and devices, CMT is uniquely able to create a seamless consumer experience when both Apple® and CMT detect a crash.

CMT’s new Claims Exchange uses telematics data to provide insurers with a single view of multi-vehicle crashes involving two vehicles or drivers on the CMT platform. This view gives insurers an unbiased, data-rich reconstruction of the crash scene, allowing for faster and more precise investigations and liability decisions, accelerating the entire claims process. Policyholders receive quicker settlements and get back on the road faster.

Improved developer tools

With CMT measuring and protecting tens of millions of users around the world, developer-friendliness is key. CMT’s latest update introduces new tools to simplify development and streamline telematics program management:

  • Developers can now use the Flutter and React Native frameworks, allowing them to maintain a single codebase for both Android and iOS apps.

IDEMIA Public Security strengthens its dedication to making its technology accessible to all users, including people with disabilities (PWD), by introducing new features in its next-gen Mobile ID app. The app ensures equal access and usability, aligning with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). IDEMIA aims to exceed accessibility standards by incorporating inclusive design, delivering not just functional but outstanding experiences for people with disabilities.

To continue to raise the bar on its accessibility efforts, IDEMIA has partnered with U.S. state governments and companies like Applause, a world leader in testing and digital quality, to ensure comprehensive quality for all Mobile ID users. Applause experts collaborated with IDEMIA’s internal team of UX and UI designers to identify and correct accessibility issues prior to the launch of the application. Next, Applause and IDEMIA will enter the inclusive design phase of the project to gain deeper insights into app functionality and uncover usability improvements that can optimize experiences for the widest range of people, regardless of their abilities.

“We’re excited to be working with IDEMIA to support its inclusivity goals and ensure its Mobile ID application continues to conform to global accessibility standards,” said Bob Farrell, VP, Solution Delivery & CX, Applause. “We’re now entering the inclusive design phase of the project, where we’ll help optimize the UX so that the product is not just functional, but so it’s truly exceptional for all users. Our team provides accessibility audits as well as diverse testing data and deep insights from the world’s largest community of testing experts and end users, including people with disabilities who have access to different device and platform configurations for us to test. Their perspective is essential to developing a fully inclusive experience.”

Designing technology with accessibility in mind requires a thoughtful and inclusive approach. D-Wave Quantum Inc. and NTT DOCOMO Inc. reported a successful quantum optimization pilot that enhanced mobile network performance. By leveraging D-Wave’s annealing quantum computing technology, DOCOMO achieved a 15% reduction in paging signals during peak calling times, easing congestion at base stations. This improvement could lead to greater efficiency and reduced infrastructure costs. DOCOMO intends to roll out the hybrid-quantum solution across its Japanese branch offices in the near future.

D-Wave’s hybrid-quantum technology was used to optimize base station tracking areas — which are small geographical regions — that collectively send paging signals and process extensive historical data on device movements between stations. This helps DOCOMO predict future movement patterns and determine the best combination of base stations to re-establish connections as devices move between tracking areas.

The solution’s efficiency was demonstrated in pilot tests for certain areas in Japan (Tokai, Chugoku, Kyushu regions) when compared to classical methods. While a general-purpose solver took 27 hours, D-Wave’s hybrid solver completed the same task in just 40 seconds. The test results showed that quantum optimization led to a 15% reduction in paging signals, allowing approximately 1.2 times more terminals to be connected during periods of high call volume. This expanded bandwidth for base station resources has the potential to greatly reduce congestion, which would help the company maintain quality network traffic flow even during heavy usage.

“We anticipate that our quantum optimization strategy will further refine network efficiency, allowing us to maintain high-quality service without additional infrastructure investments as network traffic increases,” said Takatoshi Okagawa, director of research and development strategy at NTT DOCOMO. “With D-Wave’s hybrid quantum technology, we aim to set a new standard in the telecommunications industry for operational performance.”

“Telcos are faced with a slew of increasing operational complexities — from 5G implementation to ever-shifting consumer demands — and need novel solutions to maintain a competitive edge,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. “DOCOMO’s successful pilot sends a clear signal — that today’s quantum technologies are capable of solving telcos’ complex optimization problems, with the potential to elevate customer satisfaction, maintain network performance and mitigate rising infrastructure costs.”

Following its successful pilot, DOCOMO plans to deploy the annealing quantum computing solution into production at branch offices across Japan. The company is also exploring opportunities to apply quantum optimization across its business units including finance, retail, traffic and logistics, and construction.
