Parallels has announced that Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server) is now available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. This allows Parallels customers to benefit from the efficient and reliable Azure cloud platform, with simplified deployment and management.

As organizations continue to navigate an evolving landscape, the demand for solutions supporting remote workforces and efficient application delivery has never been higher. Parallels RAS represents one such solution, and now that it can be purchased and deployed through Microsoft Azure Marketplace, additional options emerge for partners to extend this delivery to customers wishing to better deploy and manage their remote desktop and application infrastructure.

“With Parallels RAS now available in the Azure Marketplace, organizations worldwide can experience enhanced accessibility,” said Prashant Ketkar, Chief Product and Technology Officer for Parallels. “Listing Parallels RAS as a managed app alongside the existing BYOL options, simplifies the deployment process, making it easier for organizations to find, adopt, and integrate Parallels RAS directly from the Azure Marketplace. This move optimizes operations and removes barriers to adoption, ensuring a smoother and more efficient implementation.”

Deploying Parallels RAS within Azure Marketplace offers a significant advantage: complete automation. This streamlined process handles the initial setup of a full Parallels RAS infrastructure in the customer’s Azure subscription. It automates the deployment of infrastructure components, such as Connection Brokers, Secure Gateways, and Load Balancers, all customizable to the user’s preferences.

Furthermore, integration with Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) can automatically be configured. This allows organizations to jump start their Azure Virtual Desktop deployment, take advantage of all the benefits Azure Virtual Desktop provides, and get all the enhancements Parallels RAS bring to this platform.

During the automated deployment, a new pay-as-you-go license is configured, meaning there is no need to buy Parallels RAS licenses separately. With an Azure Marketplace deployment of Parallels RAS, organizations automatically pay for usage based on the highest concurrency each month, billed through Azure Marketplace.

Additionally, customers may be eligible to debit their existing Microsoft cloud commitment to purchase offers like this in Azure Marketplace. This alignment with existing cloud consumption commitments provides businesses with an incentive to leverage Parallels RAS on Microsoft Azure, optimizing IT spending while benefiting from its advanced features.

Tailored, private offers by partners

With Parallels RAS now available as a transactable solution within the Azure Marketplace, partners, such as Cloud Solution Providers, can now work together with Parallels to create unique offers for their customers and help promote revenue growth. A Multi-Party Private Offer (MPO) allows partners to create personalized offers, provide added value, add custom payouts, and sell directly to Microsoft customers with simplified selling through the marketplace.

A suggested private offer could be an extended offer with Parallels RAS as the secure application and desktop delivery solution, included with professional services for migration, consultancy and IT training from value-added partners.

Jake Zborowski, General Manager, Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft Corp., said, “We welcome Parallels RAS to Azure Marketplace, where global customers can find, try, and buy from among thousands of partner solutions. Thanks to trusted partners like Parallels, Azure Marketplace is part of a cloud marketplace landscape predicted to grow revenue 500% from 2022 to 2025.

The Azure Marketplace is an online market for buying and selling cloud solutions certified to run on Azure. The Azure Marketplace helps connect companies seeking innovative, cloud-based solutions with partners who have developed solutions that are ready to use.

Alludo announced that it has renamed its secure remote access solution Parallels Awingu to Parallels Secure Workspace. Awingu was acquired last year and the renaming marks a logical next step, firmly establishing Parallels Secure Workspace as a fully-fledged member of the Parallels family, which includes Parallels Desktop, Parallels RAS, Parallels Toolbox, and Parallels Access.

“Hybrid and remote work are here to stay, and Parallels Secure Workspace enables organizations to give their employees secure access to the applications they depend on, whether they’re in a boardroom, at the airport, or their home office,” said Christa Quarles, CEO of Alludo. “This renaming is just one step of Parallels’ security journey as we continue our mission to empower knowledge workers’ anywhere, anytime productivity by improving the secure-remote-access experience.”

The renaming of the product also underscores Parallels’ focus on the evolving market. According to a recent cybersecurity report, 41% of IT professionals reported a security breach within the last 12 months, while a substantial 78% expressed their intent to significantly or moderately increase security budgets in the coming year. This growing emphasis on security stresses the demand for safe and user-friendly solutions, a need that Parallels Secure Workspace effectively addresses.

“Parallels Secure Workspace, now formerly Awingu, has been a pioneer in remote access solutions. With specific security-focused capabilities they are aligning with the future needs of customers in a globally dispersed and heavily remote workforce,” said Dr. Chase Cunningham, Dr. ZeroTrust. “I have followed Awingu’s journey closely since 2017, and this renaming aligns with their customers’ and future customers’ needs and is a watershed moment for the company.”

Parallels Secure Workspace, which has been under development since 2011 in Belgium, distinguishes itself by being “clientless,” operating entirely within the web browser to offer effortless access to virtual apps, desktops, files, SaaS applications, and cloud storage anywhere, on any device. Both mid-market and large enterprises choose this secure remote access solution, not only for its fast deployment within hours, but also as it presents a more secure alternative to traditional VPNs. It effectively supports companies with their Zero Trust security initiatives, secure BYOD programs, remote work arrangements, and controlled contractor access.

As Awingu transitions to Parallels Secure Workspace, the product itself will remain unchanged, ensuring a smooth experience for all users without any required actions. Default branding for fresh installs in line with the Parallels brand will also be introduced. For more information on upgrading to the latest version, please visit our website HERE. Parallels announced findings from its 2023 Hybrid Cloud Survey, conducted among IT professionals. A hybrid cloud setup is a combination of public clouds, private clouds, and on-premises infrastructures used together by organizations to store, manage, and run their data and applications.

The Parallels research revealed that the ease of talent search plays a pivotal role in driving the adoption of the hybrid cloud. In fact, a significant majority of IT professionals (62%) find a lack of cloud management skills gaps to be a barrier to growth, an issue even more prevalent in mid-size* companies (72%).

To cope, companies are increasing their use of hybrid cloud infrastructure. Nearly two-thirds of the survey respondents, 64%, had already implemented a hybrid approach, and 38% of all respondents plan to further embrace a hybrid cloud approach in the next year.

The research also looked at the usage of the public cloud, uncovering that the majority derive most value from it. However, within large enterprises, 18% of respondents admit to not getting the most value out of the public cloud. 11% across all companies find themselves in a similar position. Among this group of respondents, 41% cite concerns over the complexity of migrating to the public cloud. This challenge is further exacerbated by a lack of in-house cloud expertise gaps (33%) and IT recruiting challenges (15%).

While it’s true that cloud use is not a ‘one size fits all’ proposition, it is clear that a hybrid cloud model is preferred by companies, both large and small,” said Prashant Ketkar, Chief Technology & Product Officer, Alludo. “As organizations struggle to find and retain the talent they need to manage complex cloud implementations, hybrid cloud can be the solution. By using a more incremental cloud adoption approach, supported by easy-to-manage software solutions that are enhanced with automation and security, IT professionals can realize the flexibility and cost savings they want from the cloud, without specialized cloud management expertise.”

“IDC’s xOps Census and Forecast 2022 to 2027 shows that the current gaps are of approximately 1.5 million IT professionals worldwide has already made it challenging for small and medium businesses to get the resources they need, driving a need for new innovation and infrastructure solutions”, said Shannon Kalvar, IDC Research Director. “Those gaps will expand to almost 8 million IT professionals worldwide by 2027 due to retirements and a lack of new entrants, forcing the industry to adopt entirely new ways of getting work done.”

Hybrid Cloud for Hybrid Work

The Parallels research found that hybrid cloud infrastructure is the most prevalent model for supporting a hybrid workforce. Out of the 83% of respondents who currently work in a hybrid (working both remote and in the office) structure, 82% use the hybrid cloud.

The top five benefits reported for the use of hybrid cloud, compared to 100% public cloud or 100% on-premises infrastructure, are:

  • Increased flexibility (49%)
  • Improved security (46%)
  • Cost savings (45%)
  • Increased reliability (44%)
  • Scalability (40%)
Legacy Applications Persist

The continued significance of legacy applications is also contributing to the ongoing adoption of hybrid cloud. Nearly all (96%) of the IT professionals surveyed claim that they currently need legacy Windows and Linux applications, and almost half (49%) report that they will need to continue to access these legacy applications more than five years from now.

This is especially true for smaller companies with 54% signifying this is very important. Only 4% of those surveyed reported that they did not use any legacy applications. A hybrid cloud approach helps overcome the legacy application challenge by enabling incremental changes to the IT infrastructure, without a wholesale upgrade to applications that may not be cloud ready.

Parallels enables the simplified adoption of a hybrid cloud approach with its Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server) solution. The latest release of Parallels RAS enhances automation and security for end-user computing in a hybrid cloud environment while enabling cost efficiency and saving IT administration time in environments including Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). For more information, visit the website HERE.

Survey Methodology

Parallels’ Hybrid Cloud Survey was conducted in July 2023 with data from 805 IT professionals that are using the public cloud to some extent in U.S., UK and Germany. To see the full results of the study, click HERE.

*Note: Mid-size companies are defined as those with 500 to 1,999 employees.

Imagine if every person at your organization approached every problem with the exact same mindset. They’d all have the same ideas, never challenge each other, and cling to the status quo.

No drama. No speedbumps.

No innovation.

No breakthroughs.

All ruts and plateaus, all the time.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll take a hard pass on a work environment like that.

Diversity of thought, perspective, background, and experience is essential to forward progress. Ideas must be challenged and tweaked and shaped and bounced around. Everyone likes it when people agree with them, but I’d hate it if everyone simply “yesed” me all the time, even when my ideas weren’t great. What an incredible waste of time and potential.

I’m fortunate to work for a company that gets it. We actively seek out diverse perspectives because, frankly, it’s great for business. We’re also leaning in hard to a form of diversity that is often overlooked: Neurodiversity.

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term that includes conditions like ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Autism. One in five people are neurodivergent, including me. Whether acknowledged or not, neurodiversity is likely to be present at nearly every company within every industry worldwide.

Neurodiversity is rarely discussed in corporate settings because it’s deeply stigmatized, but my colleagues and I are committed to changing that. Neurodiversity doesn’t mean a lack of ability. It simply means that neurodivergent people perceive and interact with the world differently than the neurotypical majority. When it’s embraced, neurodiversity can deliver innumerable advantages to an organization.

Current State of Neurodiversity

Successfully leaning into neurodiversity starts by understanding it. That’s why we administered an ambitious survey to gauge the current state of neurodiversity in the workplace. The Alludo Neurodiversity at Work survey outlines findings from nearly 1,000 neurodivergent individuals about their experiences at work, what they bring to the table, and the obstacles they sometimes face. The survey polled non-managers, managers, directors, VPs, and C-Level office workers, between the ages of 18-65, living in the US and the UK. The data reveals that neurodiverse workers can add exceptional value to a business through:

  • Creative, flexible, and outside-the-box thinking (52.1%)
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail (40%)
  • Ability to stay focused for long periods of time (36.7%)
  • Excellent ability to recognize patterns (34.6%)
  • Excellent math skills (34.4%)

That all sounds great, right? And it is. The problem is that the current business landscape is still set up to foster success primarily, and sometimes exclusively, for the neurotypical majority. This alienates and stigmatizes neurodiverse talent.

According to the survey, this disconnect has resulted in more than half (51%) of neurodivergent workers thinking about quitting or having left their job because they do not feel their employer is doing enough to support their needs. When different age groups were asked if they have quit or would consider quitting, younger employees were most likely to look for jobs elsewhere—52% for those aged 18-24, compared to 28% for those 55-64.

This is not a zero sum game. Creating more inclusive, flexible spaces at work doesn’t make things harder for the neurotypical majority. It makes it easier for everyone.

Business leaders should use this information as an alarm bell, and an opportunity to redesign outdated work processes to be more inclusive and accessible while also creating a culture of psychological safety where all their employees—neurodiverse or not—can thrive. Cultivating an environment where diverse ways of thinking can thrive is absolutely vital for continuous innovation and change.

Neurodiversity Drives Evolution of Work

This survey comes as the world reckons with a widespread, permanent shift toward remote and hybrid models for knowledge workers. There’s also a movement toward advancing beyond location flexibility, aiming for a workplace model where employees are truly free to work not only where, but when and how they want. At Alludo, we view this comprehensive sense of freedom as the future of work, and have coined the term Work3 to describe it.

Embracing Work3 means dismantling generations of notions about what work should look and feel like. Work 1.0 is the traditional, in-office, 9-5 model where people show up, tick boxes, and leave. Ushered in by the pandemic, Work 2.0 embraces digital transformation as well as a significantly higher prevalence of remote and hybrid workplaces. However, Work 2.0 largely carried the expectations of Work 1.0 into a different workplace model. Simply working remotely doesn’t mean freedom at work, as evidenced by the growing trend of high-tech monitoring devices to keep tabs on remote workers. A true, Work3-centered environment means being able to show up as you are, embracing your unique skills and differences, and working in the way that suits you best.

The Alludo survey made it clear that Neurodivergent workers clearly prefer true freedom and flexibility at work—not simply the option to work remotely, which is a standout preference, but also the ability to work in the style that suits them best.

We believe that Work3 is an important shift for all knowledge workers, not only those who are neurodivergent. In Work3, outputs matter more than inputs. Managers don’t evaluate performance based on presence, how many hours are logged, or when those hours are logged. While there are sure to be a few essential touchpoints here and there, knowledge workers should be free to complete their assigned tasks when, where, and how they want. There is no shame in 2 a.m. emails, nor is there an expectation to respond at 2 a.m. Employees may use the tools and devices that work best for them, as long as those tools are secure. There is psychological safety to take risks within established guidelines, and an acceptance to fail wisely.

This is true freedom, blended with accountability, to produce optimal results.

As the survey confirms, Work3 is the model that neurodivergent knowledge workers have been waiting for. It creates time and space for ideas, bold thinking, optimal performance, and challenging the status quo. It’s what neurodivergent knowledge workers need, but it’s truly what every knowledge workers need. Ultimately, it’s what businesses need to attract, retain, and engage great talent while breaking through ruts and generating more revenue and profits. That’s a win for everyone.

Alludo announced Parallels has recently received the well-known Arm® SystemReadyTM VE certification for its Parallels Desktop solution, securing its position as a leader in virtualization technology. The Arm SystemReady certification program is built around a set of compute platform standards that ensure software compatibility, optimization, reliability, and security on Arm-based systems. This certification is only given to products that meet Arm’s specifications.

“By achieving this certification, Parallels has again demonstrated its commitment of working with technology partners like Arm to provide developers and users with a virtualization platform that meets the highest industry standards,” said Prashant Ketkar, CTO at Alludo.

Businesses can have greater confidence that Windows 11 and Linux will function smoothly, minimizing downtime and supporting business continuity. The certification ensures that developers’ code and testing in Arm-based virtual environments will run with seamless interoperability across standard operating systems and software. This alignment can help to avoid compatibility issues and streamline the development process.

“By standardizing common building blocks, fragmentation is reduced, and device users can focus on the task at hand without worrying about security or reliability,” said Andy Rose, VP Technology Strategy and Fellow at Arm. “Parallels’ certification demonstrates a commitment to delivering high-quality software and we look forward to seeing how Parallels Desktop users are further empowered to use Windows 11 and Linux with increased reliability and security on Arm-based systems.”

In addition to the Arm certification, Parallels reached another significant milestone in February 2023, when Microsoft recognized Parallels Desktop as the only third-party solution for running Arm versions of Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise on Macs with Apple Silicon. This was especially exciting for business users who have been eager to harness the power of Windows 11 on their Apple devices.

Parallels Desktop is a widely recognized virtualization software that enables Mac users to run Windows on their devices. Key reasons Parallels Desktop is ideal for running Windows 11 on Macs include:

  • Seamless Integration: Parallels Desktop offers a coherent and smooth experience, allowing users to run Windows and macOS applications side by side without rebooting. This integration enables users to easily switch between operating systems and access their preferred apps seamlessly.
  • Performance: Parallels Desktop is designed to run VMs on Apple Silicon, resulting in enhanced performance for Windows 11 on Mac in areas such as faster start-up times, and improved battery life.
  • Easy Installation: Parallels Desktop simplifies installation, making it quick and hassle-free to get Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise up and running on your Mac. Users can easily download and install Windows 11 directly from Parallels Desktop or import an existing virtual machine.
  • Facilitate Compliance: Microsoft has authorized the use of Arm versions of Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise installed in a virtual machine with Parallels Desktop for Mac.

The combination of Arm certification and Microsoft authorization has opened up a new world of possibilities for business users and developers in particular. Users can expect a seamless, high-performance, and secure experience when running Windows 11 on their Apple devices, thanks to Parallels Desktop, which is now backed by the Arm SystemReady certification.

“The future is bright, and the recent updates are a testament to the ongoing innovation that continues to shape the tech industry,” added Ketkar.

Alludo announced the results of its Neurodiversity at Work survey highlighting how the traditional workplace is missing out on top talent by failing to support the needs of neurodiverse employees.

These workers can bring exceptional skills and much-needed strengths to businesses, with the survey highlighting that over 50% of neurodivergent employees can increase workplace flexibility, and creativity, and bring diverse ways of thinking that allow them to tackle challenges in unique ways.

Up to 20% of the global population is neurodivergent. That means they perceive and interact with the world differently than the neurotypical majority, and have one or more neurological differences that may include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and others.

That’s one in five people.
Double the number of people who are lefthanded.
Twenty times the number of people who have red hair, by some estimates.

In other words, not rare at all.

In addition to neurodivergent conditions, the survey also included a general category of “mental health conditions” (e.g., bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc.), as well as “social anxiety.” While neither category is typically recognized as neurodivergent, these conditions often co-occur with neurodivergent conditions and may impact an individual’s experience in the workplace. Mental health conditions were present for 20.9% of respondents, and social anxiety was present for 22.1%.

Neurodivergent

“It’s clear that even within organizations that have improved representation across certain groups, there’s a dimension that remains continually overlooked, under-valued, and underdiscussed: neurodiversity,” said Becca Chambers, SVP of Global Brand and Communications at Alludo. “In supported environments, neurodivergent individuals thrive and offer a wealth of strengths and abilities that allow them to make exciting discoveries and challenge the status quo. These exceptionalities are especially valuable now as businesses are struggling to find and retain talent. Embracing neurodiversity in the workforce is not only the right thing to do; it’s smart business.”

The survey polled 902 non-managers, managers, directors, VPs, and C-Level office workers between the ages of 18-65 living in the US and UK. Data reveals that neurodiverse workers can add exceptional value to a business through:

  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail 40%
  • Ability to stay focused for long periods of time 36.7%
  • Excellent ability to recognize patterns 34.6%
  • Excellent math skills 34.4%

However, the traditional workplace continues to function for the neurotypical majority, alienating and further stigmatizing neurodiverse talent. According to the survey, this disconnect has resulted in 51% of neurodivergent workers thinking about quitting or having left their job because they do not feel their employer is doing enough to support their needs. When different age groups were asked if they have quit or would consider quitting, younger employees were most likely to look for jobs elsewhere:

  • Aged 18-24: 52%
  • Aged 25-34: 54.5%
  • Aged 35-44: 48.8%
  • Aged 45-54: 35.8%
  • Aged 55-64: 27.9%

While neurodiversity is often invisible, it is undoubtedly present throughout all organizations. Business leaders should see this as an opportunity to redesign outdated work processes to be more inclusive and accessible, while also creating a culture of psychological safety where all their employees—neurodiverse or not—can thrive. Not only does this benefit those who identify as neurodivergent but also makes room for more diverse ways of thinking, which is vital for continuous innovation and change.

“The need for innovative thinking will only become more important with the widespread adoption of sophisticated AI in the workplace,” said Chambers. “As conventional work gets automated, the ability to innovate, think outside the box, and approach problems with entirely different frameworks will become significantly more valuable.”
